ItineraryDay 1 UK – NairobiTitans VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Nairobi, where well stay for the night. Day 2 Maasai MaraEnjoy the unbelievable sight of the Rift Valley as we travel in 4WD land cruisers to the world-famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Our rustic lodge is ideally located for uninterrupted views across a river, where animals regularly visit. Just a short distance along this river is a key crossing point for millions of wildebeest and zebra during the Great Migration – the greatest wildlife show on earth. Our first game drive takes place this afternoon, on the lookout for an impressive 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 bird species. Day 3 Maasai MaraExtended morning and afternoon drives across the Maasai Mara offer opportunities to see the parks magnificent inhabitants, including the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino). Youll be welcomed into traditional homes of a Maasai village by members of the Maasai tribe, dressed in traditional robes in vibrant red (to scare off the lions), and clinking with jewellery. You can learn about village life, their crafts, and the famous jumping dance performed by men to prove their strength. Day 4 Maasai Mara – NairobiWe take one more game drive as we slowly make our way out of the park, and back to Nairobi for an overnight stay. Day 5 AmboseliOur next lodge is in the heart of Amboseli National Park. On arrival, take time to relax by the palm-shaded swimming pool, or watch wildlife visiting the gentle mountain spring from the sundeck, with a wonderful view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Then, this afternoon, we take a game drive to search for the areas abundant beasts. Lions, cheetahs, wildebeests and baboons are just a few of them; and then there are the hundreds of bird species heading to the trees for the night. Day 6 AmboseliMorning and afternoon game drives take you into different areas of the park in search for all the species that call this home. Its best known for the huge herds of elephants that make their way, surprisingly light-footed, across the plains. Day 7 Tsavo WestOur journey today takes us to a natural anomaly. Its said that several hundred years ago, locals saw something that could only be explained by the work of the devil – fire erupting and flowing from the ground. The Shetani (Devil) Lava Flow has cooled into strange black, razor-sharp rocks, where a few plants are trying to break through. We continue to our lodge in Tsavo West and, this afternoon, proceed on a game drive which includes a visit to Mzima Springs. The lakes here are unusually clear, filtered naturally through lava, making it particularly easy to spy on the creatures that lurk within. An underwater viewing chamber allows you to view the lake from below the waterline. If youre lucky, you might see a crocodile snaking through the water or a hippo tip-toeing along the bottom. Day 8 Tsavo West – Nairobi – In flightOur final day will be a busy one. We wake early for a sunrise safari. Tsavo West is a lesser-visited reserve, yet the animals are in abundance, and more at ease with the few safari jeeps that do cross its plains, creating a wonderful safari experience. The safari complete, we make our way to the train station for a journey to Nairobi. As you sit among friendly Kenyan locals in a comfortable, modern express train, you can watch the changing landscape through large windows – great stretches of golden savannah and dusty plains. On reaching the capital, we head to the Giraffe Centre. It was set up to save Rothschild giraffes from extinction, and educate children about the countrys wildlife. Today it gives you the opportunity to meet these towering quadrupeds eye-to-eye. We also visit the Karen Blixen Museum. This Danish author spent many years running a coffee farm here, before she returned to Denmark and wrote acclaimed books including Out of Africa. A farewell dinner is arranged at Carnivore, famous for barbecued meats including crocodile and ostrich, carved at the table. Filled with good food and great memories, its time to transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Day 9 UKUpon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home. |
