A large picture window looking over the bedroom is a quirky feature of the bathrooms, there is however a handy blind to protect your modesty.

The ground floor rooms have a lovely terrace with direct access to the lawns, those on the first floor have a balcony (premium rooms have two balconies). Garden room types include ‘economy’ twin rooms, ‘club’ double or interconnecting rooms and ‘premium’ double rooms.

Food and Drink

It’s easy to build up an appetite, but you won’t go hungry. The large, shaded outdoor terrace of the restaurant is a great place to eat. Club board consisting of daily breakfast, daily lunch and four evening meals are included each week. There’s a great choice of delicious Mediterranean treats or more familiar buffet dishes to tempt you.

On non-inclusive evenings, you can join in in Neilsons BBQ night where their chefs will be cooking up a storm, enjoy a pizza or burger from the pool bar, or head out to one of a handful local tavernas further along the beach.

Activities

On the water

Take your pick from dinghy sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. All of these activities are included in your Neilson Messini Beachclub holiday.

If you’re an early riser, start the day with a pre-breakfast water skiing or wakeboarding session. Neilsons include up to two free tows per person per week, (three if you’re on a 10-11 night holiday) with a beginner and intermediate upgrade packs available (for a supplement) if you really want to get to grips with the sport.

Dinghy sailors and windsurfers have a more laid back start if they choose to. Head down to the beach around midday or after lunch, when the breeze kicks in, to make the most of the sailing and large sailing area.

On the shore

There’s mountain biking, road cycling, tennis, fitness classes, and even a climbing wall; all are included and for a little bit extra you can also give rock climbing a go.

The cycling offers loads of variety, technical climbs, rolling descents and olive groves for the mountain bikers and some long open roads for the road cyclists. Its one of the top beach clubs for biking, as you’ll find a greater variety of rides and more bike guides here. There are guided mountain and road bike rides available each day or you can get together with a friend and head out together.

Wind conditions

The wind typically picks up around midday, blowing on-shore most days with cross on-shore conditions on windier days. The typical wind force ranges from 3-4 with the most consistent conditions in June, July, and August.

Rest and Relaxation

There’s a wellness area, with a team of therapists. Book a massage, facial or manicure to relax and unwind. Spa packages can be pre-booked before you travel, saving money on the in-resort prices, leaving you some extra cash for a cocktail or two! Of course, you can just seek out a quiet spot around the pool or on the beach and finish that book you’ve been meaning to since last summer!

NEW FOR 2020- 10 and 11 night holidays!

10-night holidays arrive on a Thursday and depart on a Sunday. 11-nights holidays arrive on a Sunday and depart on a Thursday. There’s a welcome meeting on Friday morning for 11-night guests. If you’re on an 11-night holiday you will join the Monday morning welcome meeting with our 7 and 14-night guests.

Local area

Step outside the beachclub and you’ll know you’re in rural Greece as the immediate area is fairly sleepy. Steeped in history and tradition, there are many places to visit and discover, with lush verdant valleys, endless sandy beaches, hidden coves, and sheltered bays as well as small rural villages set into the slopes of the Taygetus Mountains.

Kalamata

Kalamata is a bustling and vibrant city in the Peloponnese region, renowned for its Kalamata olives, delicious figs, and Kalamatianos dancing. Home to a charming harbour and bustling city centre it is well worth a visit. The dramatic Taygetus Mountain range frames the city and the old town around the Kastro is beautiful with lots of interesting shops to explore. The pebbled beach affords you stunning views out to the Messinian Gulf and if you head towards the centre there are a plethora of bars and tavernas to relax in. There are countless museums and places of interest to explore including The church of the Apostles, The Historical and Folklore Museum and the Kalograion Monastery. If you can time your trip so that you visit on a Wednesday or Saturday then you will be able to enjoy the market day, a spectacular display of fresh produce from the region.

Dyros Caves

Only discovered in 1958 the Dyros caves were found to contain ceramics, tools, silver, and bones dating all the way back to the Neolithic age. A visit to the caves is made extra special by the presence of the underground lake, visitors take a small boat into the cavern and complete the journey on foot to marvel at the stalactites and stalagmites.

Ancient Messenia

Just 20 minutes from Messenia itself you will find the hidden archaeological site of ancient Messini. Built into the foothills of Mount Ithomi, surrounded by Mount Eva and Mount Psoriari. This fortified city protected the ancient Messenians for countless years and parts of the original outer wall from the summit along the mountains ridge remain today complete with several of the original lookout towers. You can follow the remains through the olive groves and past orchards or visit the archaeological museum and discover more about the history of ancient Greece.

Poliliminio Waterfalls

Take a walk through the olive groves and vineyards and visit the 15 lakes at the base of the waterfalls. These falls were virtually undiscovered until fairly recently but they are quickly becoming a favourite. There is a 3km walk that is moderately difficult but will afford visitors the chance to take in all the sights, alternatively, you can simply visit the falls and swim in one of the lakes. From the waterfalls, you can follow the gorge downhill and end up at a cave which houses some truly beautiful butterflys. This is the perfect spot for a cooling swim on a hot summers day.
