Lake Geneva by Rail

Overview

Journey from the French town of Vevey on the shores of Lake
Geneva to Chamonix on the Mont Blanc Express. Cross the
France-Switzerland border on a paddle steamer or explore Vevey’s
Old Town; the finer points of your journey with GRJ independent are
up to you.

Itinerary

Day 1

UK to Vevey

Your journey begins at London St Pancras as you board the
Eurostar to Paris where you’ll connect for your journey to
Vevey, via Lausanne. The charming town of Vevey has an idyllic
setting on the north shore of Lake Geneva. Perhaps begin your time
here with a gentle stroll alongside the sparkling waters of the
lake or head to the pretty Old Town.

Day 2

Historic Vevey

After spending time by the lake, you may decide to take an
excursion by trolley-bus to the 13th Century Chteau de Chillon,
which rises dramatically from the waters of Lake Geneva against a
backdrop of breathtaking mountain scenery.

Day 3

Lake Geneva Cruise

Today, why not enjoy a leisurely morning cruise around the
eastern part of the lake on a wonderful vintage paddle steamer (or
small cruise ship depending on departure date). On the southern
shore of the lake, stop in the delightful village of St Gingolph to
explore the pretty lakeside promenade, port and castle.

Day 4

Mont Blanc Express

Whilst in Vevey, don’t miss an exciting journey on the fabulous
Mont Blanc Express. After travelling through a wealth of
jaw-dropping landscapes, you’ll reach the bustling town of
Chamonix. Take time to relax amidst spectacular scenery before
rejoining the Mont Blanc Express for the return journey.

Day 5

Vevey and the Mont Perelin Funicular

For more spectacular views today, take a ride on the Mont
Plerin funicular railway which runs between Vevey and the summit
of Mont Plerin via Lausanne and Montreux.

Day 6

Vevey to UK

After a short journey to Lausanne, you’ll connect with the
high-speed TGV to Paris, joining the Eurostar to
London.
