Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight Flight

South Africa a country filled with stunning landscapes and wildlife awaits your arrival. On this special tour, give back to those in need, experience the countrys unique culture and explore the most inspiring landscapes.

Day 2: Cape Town, South Africa – Tour Begins

Your journey opens in the scenic coastal city of Cape Town that lies between towering Table Mountain and the sea. Youll be captivated by its celebrated architecture that fuses the traditions of the French, German and Dutch.

Day 3: Cape Town

Embark on a thrilling ride on a cable car that whisks you to an altitude of more than 3,000 feet, landing atop the aptly named and flat-topped Table Mountain.* The views of Cape Town, Robben Island and Lions Head will leave you breathless. Return to the city via Table Bay, passing through the Malay Quarter with its mosques and minarets. Make a special stop at the Milnerton Lighthouse. This evening, take part in a unique African experience a lesson on the djembe drums to learn the local beat. Then, participate in a soothing hand washing ceremony before a communal African dining experience.

Day 4: Cape Town – Knysna

Today, travel to the picturesque resort town of Knysna, in the heart of the Garden Route. Make a stop along the Garden Route in the Aloe Ferox region to enjoy an aloe-tapping demonstration and a stroll in the indigenous gardens. Continue on to Knysna where we will spend time volunteering in a variety of ways through The Knysna Education Trust. After touring the township which highlights the diversity of this community, we will assist a community outreach program.* Later, learn more about how the Collette Foundation and Knysna Education Trust are working in partnership to educate the children of the region and support the community.

Day 5: Knysna

You will spend the day at a school funded by The Knysna Education Trust. Learn how the children benefit from the trust and the Collette Foundation. Choose your volunteer activity today! Perhaps you would like to take part in a reading activity, assist with a lesson plan or help the children with an educational craft. In addition, you might choose to get your hands dirty by helping to paint a school mural to brighten up the classrooms, or assist in some maintenance in one of the vital eating gardens that the children of Knysna depend on daily. This evening, enjoy some time to independently explore the charming waterfront area.

Day 6: Knysna

Today, visit the nearby Featherbed Nature Reserve. Begin with a lagoon cruise out to the famous Knysna Heads which mark the entrance to the lagoon. Next, board a 4×4 vehicle and travel deep into the forest to discover the local flora and fauna during a leisurely paced nature walk. Enjoy lunch amongst the ancient milkwood trees so called because of their white latex sap before your return cruise. This afternoon will be truly memorable as you visit a remote village to present the villagers with Hippo Rollers on behalf of the Collette Foundation. Hippo Rollers are an innovative design that makes the labor-intensive task of collecting water here vastly easier and much more efficient providing better access to water. Hippo Rollers change lives and meeting the community that benefits from it will be an experience you wont soon forget.

Day 7: Knysna – Oudtshoorn – Stellenbosch

Leave Knysna today and travel to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of South Africa. Enjoy a guided tour of one of the oldest working ostrich farms in the area, before setting off on a tractor safari through the farm viewing ostriches in various stages of development in the Lucerne fields. An outdoor barbecue lunch enhances this wonderful day. Next, journey to the heart of the beautiful winelands region, known for its colorful mountains and endless vineyards.

Day 8: Stellenbosch

This morning, learn about the struggles of the local community and volunteer for a program focused on the needs of the children who live in the Western Cape region in Stellenbosch. This afternoon, set out on a walking tour of Stellenbosch one of the oldest European settlements in the region with a local expert. Then, sample of the flavor of the region during a wine tasting complemented by some local delicacies. This evening, say farewell to this stunning country and toast to all that we have accomplished during a wine pairing dinner.

Day 9: Stellenbosch – Cape Town – Tour Ends
