Read all about one of our teams recent trip to Club Med Cherating in Malaysia
Situated on the stunning east coast of Malaysia sits a mini paradise where the jungle meets the coast. The most popular route to get to Cherating is flying, with it only being a short 45 minute flight from Kuala Lumpur or a hours flight from Singapore however transfers are also available from Kuala Lumpur through Club Med taking around three and a half hours if your driving.
Arriving at the resort lets you appreciate how much land you have to play with it’s like living in your own jungle full of wildlife and a huge array of different trees, plants and beautiful and well looked after gardens giving the resort a peaceful atmosphere with birds singing and monkeys swinging in the trees. A big Club Med welcoming upped our spirits after a long journey with a big smile from the lovely Dai at reception and an ice cold drink to kick start our stay at Club Med Cherating. The building itself is a site to behold a huge wooden structure makes it feel like your staying in an ancient Asian temple with the club rooms a huge contrast with huge beds, a flat screen television and clean modern bathrooms with garden views allowing you to really appreciate the surrounding jungle.
After unpacking and getting all settled in I headed straight to the main pool for a swim and to partake in the aqua aerobics which happen everyday to wake myself up and get the blood pumping for the day followed closely by the mini club activities around the pool for the kids. If your here to relax however the resort has its own private beach and zen pool a five minute journey away from the main pool, now this for me was the highlight of the resort, an infinity pool overlooking a stunning beach with a bar and restaurant makes it the perfect place to spend a day relaxing away from the kids. The other end of the beach offers an array of water sports all hosted by a hilarious group of GOs which help you either learn a new skill in sailing kayaking and also rock climbing or simply leave you to enjoy the beautiful South China Sea for yourself. One thing that you can always expect with Club Med are amazing facilities and high class training in all included activities – Cherating boasts a 3G football pitch a full sized basketball court, a gym overlooking the beach, five tennis and badminton courts and also facilities for squash, archery, yoga, ping pong and also the famous tree top challenge an obstacle course set at the top of the jungle in which guests can try break the course record in which I failed miserably.
After you’ve worn yourself out taking part in all these different activities you’ll certainly deserve a feast and that’s what you will get at the main restaurant open for breakfast lunch and dinner. Grab your seat and a drink from the bar and tuck in to a delicious range of some of the best food you can imagine from all different parts of the world! With a different set of specials and Club Meds amazing team of chefs even the pickiest of eaters will be satisfied with what’s on offer with Japanese, Italian, Indian, Chinese and obviously local Malaysian food all up for grabs and if that’s not enough the different themes each night mean they improvise with even more international dishes through out the week. Or if you want to keep healthy after your day of action fresh salad and fruit are available along with a number of other healthy super foods, the food was a real highlight for me with some of the best I have had at any resort – the kitchen staff at Cherating are a real credit to Club Med. If you get fed up of this restaurant they also have a stunning set up down at the beach with a buffet option available at lunch turning into a gourmet restaurant at night as you enjoy the local sea food as you hear the waves crash against the shore. After dinner head to the bar where you can sample a wide range of cocktails and wines to help you enjoy the hilarious night time entertainment or activities.
The resort also offers some excursions if you want to get out and about of the resort with a turtle sanctuary round the corner allowing you to learn all about these majestic creatures that call Malaysia their home, along with this the nature walk through the jungle was also full of different wildlife with tons of monkeys, prehistoric monitor lizards and a wide array of birds keeping you entertained while you take in the beautiful scenery along the coast.
Overall I simply cannot fault this resort after a weeks amazing stay I was very sad to leave with the lovely staff you really feel like your part of the team.
