Mauritius

Discover Mauritius

French settlers loved Mauritius, because the climate was similar to their own. Mauritius is a slice of tropical paradise; an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, known for its wild, white, coral-strewn, sandy beaches, lagoons and exciting water sports opportunities.

Its family-friendly if youre planning on a sun holiday with the kids, but also, with resorts that pride themselves on luxury, exclusivity and pampering, its a highly romantic proposition as well. You might find yourself exploring the reef, strolling through the tea plantations and rum distilleries, not to mention taking a tour of the local exotic wildlife and fitting in a golf game, all in the space of a week. Theres plenty to see and do here, but its also the perfect tranquil setting for you to lounge around on the beach, doing nothing at all.

From lakes and gardens, to forests, nature reserves andbeaches, theres a huge amount of attractions, viewpoints and experiences to behad here. Ifthe heat gets too much for you, you might like to head over to the MahebourgNaval Museum, Sugar Adventure Museum, or the Marine Modern Ship Factory.

Or, if youd like your scenery to get even hotter, you couldhead over to the volcano, Trou aux Cerfs, which you can walk up to enjoy theviews. Of course, therell be a huge timetable of resort-based activities todip into, organised from your accommodation as well.

If youre a fan of Club Med, youll love Club Med La Plantation dAlbion. Its on the beach and tuition in circus skills, such as the flying trapeze, archery, golf, tennis and sailing will all be included as part of your package. The restaurants serve exciting Asian cuisine, alongside more international fare and you can eat as you look out over the waves. There are kids clubs to keep children of all ages, up to 17, amused and youre not too far from the Casela theme park either, if you fancy taking a trip with the little ones.

Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers is another family offering from this celebrated tour operator. Its another resort the kids will love, where you can learn, or hone your skills in, scuba, kayaking and sailing. If, however, youre looking for a more romantic holiday, you might prefer Club Meds Albion Villas, which are tucked away in a secluded area of the island.

Theres also a wide range of escorted tours available to Mauritius, giving you the chance to move around the island and see everything it has to offer in the time you have. One of our favourite tours is offered by Saga Holidays, which will combine your trip to Mauritius with a tour of Madagascar, South Africa, or Zanzibar.
