Cities of Light – The great thing about cruising with in Europe is that there are so manywonderful cities to explore. One of our favourite itineraries is to start off in Paris with anight or two in the city, before heading to Germanys Trier to journey down the Moselleriver taking in beautiful Cochem, Koblenz, Rdesheim, Heidelberg, Bamberg andbreathtaking Nuremberg, before a final stop in Prague to enjoy the city. Alternatively beginyour journey in awe-inspiring Budapest and journey through Vienna, Melk, Passau,Regensburg and Nuremberg via the Danube.
Southern France – Southern France is perhaps one of our favourite river cruises. Not onlyis the journey truly beautiful, but youll get to experience wonderful cities such as Lyon andAvignon along the route. This one is a must for those who enjoy good food and wine, asyoull stop off in gastronomically perfect Lyon to sample the local delicacies as well asAvignon and Burgundy – both excellent wine making regions. If you love the vineyards ofFrance, then another option is to take a short, but wonderful trip through Bordeaux on theGronne, Gironde and Dordogne rivers. The highlight of which is undoubtedly Bordeauxand the capital of the Libourne wine region – Saint-Emillion.
Eastern Europe – There are few better ways to explore the treasures of Eastern Europethan by River Cruise. The most illuminating way to explore, and especially interesting forthose who are unfamiliar with the territory, is to take a river cruise from Budapest inHungary to Romanias Bucharest. On a typical cruise this will take you through the eastern
delights of Osijek in Croatia and Serbias Belgrade, before travelling through the Iron Gatebetween Serbia and Romania and onwards to Romanias cultural capital – Bucharest. Youmay also stop off in Vidin, Belogradchik, Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi in Bulgaria whichare replete with astonishing antique architecture which ranges from Ottoman to Romaninfluence.
The Best of The Rest – There are just too many for us to go into any great detail here –but if youre still in need of a little inspiration, then think about sailing down Portugalsincredible River of Gold – the Douro River, which takes in some of the most incrediblecities in Portugal from Porto to Barca dAlva.
