Fly drive in Hungary
Hungary is a huge country of beautiful diverse landscapes that is often only ever narrowly seen in terms of its beautifully romantic capital city; Budapest. Regent Holidays are offering you the chance to lift the veil on a bigger Hungarian picture, with a fly drive holiday that will allow you to explore independently whilst following a carefully laid out route and itinerary.
This is a great way to ensure you get the best out of your trip to a real hidden gem of a destination. Your hotels will have been booked on your behalf beforehand. All you need to do is pick up your car from the airport and enjoy an incredible trip of a lifetime. Let’s have a look at some of the places you’ll explore.
Budapest
Budapest is known as the Paris of the East for its alluring combination of Art Nouveau, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture, its romantic image and of course, its vibrant nightlife. The city sits astride the river Danube; a hazy vision of spires and palaces, being visited by curious couples and families alike.
Split into two, the city is half hilly Buda, with churches and castles and half Pest, home to grand buildings and theatres. However, if you really want to feel in the mood for love, be prepared to be wowed by the tranquil scenery as you take a stroll along the river bank.
Balaton National Park
Your next hotel will be in Totvazsony, a great base from which to explore the Balaton National Park; a nature conservation area designed to protect the Balaton Uplands and protect the local wetland inhabitants.
Take a walk along the banks of Europe’s largest lake, or, if the mood takes you, a boat along it. Cycle or hike along the nature trails, or enjoy a guided tour on foot. For the ultimate relaxing atmosphere, be sure to check out nearby famous spa centre; Heviz too.
Pecs
You’re in the south of Hungary now, staying in a Baroque spa castle surrounded by parkland in Hogyesz. The historic city of Pecs is home to an historic university, the Bishops Palace, and a basilica. There are also numerous museums to visit and enjoy. You will have an indulgent stay here, in this fascinating urban and cultural centre of Hungary, before making your way across the prairies of the Great Hungarian Plain to see real life cowboys racing and performing breathtaking stunts. The location you seek here is the majestic town of Eger.
Eger
Eger is a chocolate box town, complete with the castle on top of the hill, a Valley of Beautiful Women (that’s what the valley is called) and vineyards all around. Drink the local wine and enjoy a horseback ride or hike through the Northern Uplands to marvel at the splendid views.
