Estonia – Untarnished wilderness, rocky islands and historic forests

When you travel to Estonia, theres so much to this fascinating country that is often overlooked. You can see the legacy of the countrys history through its medieval architecture, crumbling castles and abandoned soviet missile bases, but it also boasts lively seaside resorts, country lane cycling trails with tremendous views and 1500 little islands begging to be explored.

Bordering on the Baltic Sea, Estonia is a land waiting to bediscovered by the popular tourist trail-makers. Its people and its cuisine are hearty, its caves and cliffs betray just a little of the rugged beauty of a countrythat has yet to be trampled by a tourist explosion. Theres still time to takein sights that few others before you have seen; and all as part of a luxury,all-inclusive escorted tour, with your flights, overnights, transfers, food andexcursions already built into the price.

Must-see sights

Tallin, Estonia

Tallinn is the capital of Estonia and included in mostEstonian itineraries. Its Medieval Old Town with its turrets and walls, 13thcentury church spires and cobbled streets gives the whole place a feel ofstepping back in time to a more romantic era. The Germanic influence is alsoobvious. Then you step into modern Tallinn and theres a more cosmopolitanvibe, with pavement cafes and designer boutiques. Katherine Passage, which is astreet filled with craft shops, is very quaint. A compelling hour or two canalso be spent at the Rocca al Mare open air museum.

As well as Tallinn, youll also visit the second oldest cityin the Baltics; Tartu, if only to admire the majesty of its historicuniversity. Toome Hill is a great viewpoint from which to take in the cityskyline and, if youre on holiday with a partner, dont underestimate howenchanting a walk along the banks of the Emajogi River will be.

Other highlights of Estonia include Parnu, with its cultural heart, parks and white sandy beaches, as well as the Vilsandi Nature Reserve on the island of Saaremaa, which you can cycle around or hike through on your way to the site of the infamous Estonian meteorite crater, with its accompanying museum.
